Yes. On 28.04.2025, a new agreement between Brazil and Italy entered into force, allowing the reciprocal conversion of driver’s licenses without the need for theoretical or practical exams.
The new agreement replaces the previous one, which was in force between 2018 and 2023.
Who can apply for the conversion of a driver’s license?
The following individuals may apply for conversion:
• Hold a definitive and valid driver’s license (not provisional);
• Have been legally resident in the country where they intend to convert the license for less than 4 (four) years;
• Have obtained the driver’s license before establishing residence in the destination country.
Which license categories are covered by the agreement?
The agreement covers categories A (motorcycles) and B (motor vehicles).
For categories C, D, and E, specialized training courses are still required in both countries.
Which documents are required for conversion in Italy?
To apply for conversion in Italy, the following documents are usually required:
• Original and valid Brazilian driver’s license;
• Sworn (certified) translation of the driver’s license;
• Valid Italian identity document and/or permesso di soggiorno (for non-EU citizens);
• Codice fiscale;
• Proof of residence (iscrizione anagrafica);
• Substitute declaration indicating the start date of legal residence in Italy;
• Medical certificate of psychophysical fitness issued by an authorized physician;
• Two tessera-size photographs;
• TT2112 form, duly completed and signed;
• Proof of payment of the required administrative fees.
Where should the documentation be submitted for conversion in Italy?
The documentation must be submitted to the Motorizzazione Civile of the province where the applicant resides.
In some locations, prior appointment scheduling is required.
